In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh the cave paintings of Charama caused a stir in 2014 when archaeologist JR Bhagat approached the Times of India newspaper with a story about aliens and UFO’s. He feels that parts of the cave paintings there depict visitors from space.

The locals in these villages hold several beliefs and some are said to still worship the paintings. The villagers tell stories they heard from their ancestors about small sized peoples, referred to as rohela people, that used to come from the sky in a round shaped flying object, land and abduct people from the village who never returned.

Archaeologist JR Bhagat believes that the paintings can serve as evidence of the paleocontact hypothesis, which says that in prehistoric times Earth was visited by members of an advanced alien civilization.

“The findings suggest that humans in prehistoric times may have seen or imagined beings from other planets which still create curiosity among people and researchers. Extensive research is needed for further findings. Chhattisgarh presently doesn’t have any such expert who could give clarity on the subject,” Bhagat told the newspaper.

The video footage for this interview is not available in English, but at least proves that JR Bhagat is a real person and that the cave paintings exist.

The Directorate of Culture and Archaeology for Chhattisgarh states on their website that the area is extremely rich in rock art, but very little exploration and research has gone towards it so far. The little that has been explored contains an array of mundane hunting and dancing scenes, but a few oddities have crept up so far. Images of mermaids, giraffe (from Africa), kangaroo (from Australia), a Chinese man riding a donkey and dragons.

The Directorate states that the images range in date from the Paleolithic era (beginning of the stone age) to the more recent historical era. The images in this article were reported to be 10,000 years old (8,000BC). They have asked the Indian space agency and NASA apparently to assist with research into these rock paintings.

They are certainly not the most convincing images of aliens and UFO’s that exist in rock art, but what makes the story fascinating is the believes of the villagers in the area that beings came from the sky and that the government there takes it serious enough to go public with the story and call in help to investigate the matter.

Since the story broke there has not been any new updates, at least not in English.
